SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the limited release of SAKURAO Whisky Cask Matured Umeshu – CASK STRENGTH 2025 Edition on April 1, 2025.

Crafted using over a century of distillation expertise, this exceptional umeshu is finished in bourbon barrels previously used to mature whisky distilled at SAKURAO DISTILLERY. The cask finishing imparts elegant vanilla notes derived from the bourbon oak, complemented by rich aromas reminiscent of baked apple pie, creating a harmonious balance with the fresh acidity of Japanese plums.

Unlike conventional umeshu, this edition is bottled at Cask Strength, with no dilution or adjustment after maturation, allowing the whisky cask influence and the natural character of the plum liqueur to be enjoyed in their purest form.

This limited-edition umeshu is produced by finishing carefully matured Japanese plum liqueur in whisky casks previously used to age SAKURAO single malt whisky.

The umeshu itself is a blend of:

• Plum liqueur made from 100% domestically grown Nanko plums using green plums
• Long-aged umeshu made from fully ripened Nanko plums

The combination delivers vibrant freshness alongside deep, ripe fruit aromas.

The bourbon cask finish introduces layers of sweet vanilla, baked apple pie, caramel, and gentle oak spice, resulting in a rich yet beautifully balanced flavor profile with a long, lingering finish.
