The Los Angeles International Spirits Competition has been held in Los Angeles since 2007. Now in its 16th year, the competition has established itself as one of the most prestigious competitions in the United States. Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners are selected through blind judging by a panel of judges that includes prominent U.S. bartenders, buyers, and journalists. Of the Gold winners in each category, the Best of Class is awarded to the product with the highest score.

■What is“Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition”?

The “Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition” (sponsored by the TWSC Executive Committee) is Japan’s first whisky & spirits competition. With the deep knowledge and passion of Japanese whisky and spirits enthusiasts and experts, it aim to evaluate the world’s whiskies and spirits and to make high-quality whiskies and spirits widely known at home and abroad. This year, which began in 2019 and celebrated its fourth time, there were 519 exhibits from Japan and overseas. With the strict blind tasting which the brand name is concealed, 23 products for Superior Gold, 189 products for Gold, 190 products for the silver award, and 82 products for the bronze award were decided.

Whiskies and spirits from all over the world are gathered in Japan, and high quality whiskies and spirits producted in Japan are also gathered too. They have won numerous awards at liquor competitions held in the United Kingdom and the United States. “Japanese whisky” and “Japanese spirits” are recognized as one of the categories in the world.

SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery Co., Ltd. was founded in 1918 in the town of Sakurao in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima. To better convey our concept of “sharing the pleasures of cuisine,” we emphasize our traditional techniques and the unique characteristics included in our process, such as the climate of Hiroshima and use of locally sourced ingredients.

In the competition, our two whiskies were awarded, one is Single Malt Japanese Whisky SAKURAO 1st release CASK STRENGTH which is aged in Sakurao, the place of establishment near the Seto Inland Sea, the other is Single Malt Japanese Whisky TOGOUCHI 1st release CASK STRENGTH which is aged in Togouchi in Chugoku Mountains.

It is a great honor for all of our employees to receive such an award of liquor that takes advantage of the climate of Hiroshima, which is rich in the blessings of nature. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone and we are grateful for all of the support we have received and we will continue to innovate and create new possibilities.

■What is “Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition” ?

HKIWSC (Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition) is a competition held under the same criteria as IWSC (International Wine & Spirit Competition), which is one of the world’s three major alcoholic beverage competitions. At the liquor competition that has been held in Hong Kong since 2013, a large number of wines, whiskies, gins and other spirits are gathered from all over the world.

In this competition, Gold, Silver and Bronze are selected after a blind examination by judges such as prominent bartenders, buyers and journalists. And the best of Gold is given “Trophy” for each department. Of the many exhibited products, about 900 products were awarded, and only 52 products were awarded the highest gold award “Trophy”.

This competition is held by the same tasting alliance members as the world’s largest liquor competition “San Francisco World Spirits Competition” in the United States. This competition is established one of the most prestigious competitions in the United States. Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze will be selected after a blind screening by judges such as well-known bartenders, buyers and journalists in the United States. And the best of Double Gold will be given a “Best of Class” for each division. Of the many items exhibited this time, about 520 items were awarded.
